# Customer profile CSV template (LinkedIn)

> The column format and compliance requirements for uploading a contact list to build a LinkedIn Matched Audiences audience, with a filled-in example row and links to LinkedIn's official documentation.

Use this template to format a customer profile segment for upload to LinkedIn Campaign Manager as a Matched Audiences contact list. Name the file using the [customer profile naming conventions](/customer-profile-naming-conventions). For account-level targeting by company instead of by person, use the [company list CSV template](/linkedin-company-list-csv-template) instead.

<Warning>
  Start from LinkedIn's own downloadable template inside Campaign Manager (Account Assets > Matched Audiences > Upload list), rather than building the header row by hand. LinkedIn rejects an upload if a header has been changed or removed, and the exact header text can shift between template revisions.

## File format

* CSV only.
* At least 300 rows to upload. LinkedIn recommends 10,000 or more contacts, since only a portion of any list typically matches to a real LinkedIn member, and a campaign needs at least 300 matched members before it can serve.
* Maximum file size 20MB, or 300,000 rows.
* Matching can take up to 48 hours.

## Column template

Every row needs at least one matchable identifier: an email address, or a first name and last name pair, or a mobile device ID. Leave any other column blank rather than deleting it.

## Format rules

* Email can be uploaded as plain text or pre-hashed with SHA-256.
* Don't rename, reorder, or remove any header from LinkedIn's downloaded template, even for a column you're leaving blank for every row.

## Data and compliance rules

  * You, the advertiser, are the data controller. LinkedIn processes the contact details you upload, but you're responsible for having a lawful basis, consent or legitimate interest, to use each person's data for ad targeting.
  * Your privacy policy needs to disclose that you share personal data with LinkedIn for advertising, and you need to be able to honor deletion and opt-out requests.
  * If the list includes EU or UK contacts, keep a record of the lawful basis for that list as part of your GDPR records of processing.
