# Template directory

> Every email template in one list, plus the shared templates that apply to email sends. Use it to find the right template without opening the Templates tab.

A template is a blank sheet you copy and fill in. Everything on this page is one of those. The briefs and process pages at the bottom hold the reasoning behind what goes in them.

## Copy templates

One filled template is one send. It holds the field structure and character guidance; the words come from the [copy brief](/copy-brief).

One template covers both a broadcast and a step in an automated sequence, because the fields are the same either way. What changes is the trigger, which the [email campaign brief](/email-campaign-brief) records.
