This is where completed copy briefs are filed, per the copywriting process, with links to the finished copy each one produced. A brief is filed before writing starts, not after approval. Filing it early puts the strategy on record from the moment anyone begins drafting, and anyone who needs to see what was decided can find it while the work is still live.
The brief and the copy are two different things and live in two places. The brief is the strategy and is filed here. The finished words are filed in the copy drive, and the two link to each other.

The library

Briefs are named per the file naming conventions, with COPY as the prefix: COPY_q3-trial-push_2027-08-20_v01.md The first two rows are examples using Doughnut Labs, a company that sells Doughnut Technology. Delete them and fill in your own.

What gets filed here

  • Every copy brief, whether or not the copy shipped.
  • Abandoned briefs, with a note on why the assignment stopped. The customer profile insight and objections research in them is usually still useful.
  • Rewrite briefs, when a piece is rewritten rather than edited. File the new brief alongside the original with the next version number.
Briefs are versioned rather than overwritten, so the history of what a piece of copy was originally meant to do stays intact.
