PMax serves one asset group across Search, Display, YouTube, Discover, Gmail, and Maps. Google crops and recombines your assets per placement, so build for cropping rather than for one fixed layout.
Build once, export three times
PMax requires three image ratios. All three crop cleanly out of a single 1200 × 1200 master, landing on Google’s recommended size in each case. Keep your logo, headline, and product hero inside the green 960 × 628 core and nothing important gets cut in any ratio.Image assets
Format:
.jpg or .png, 5 MB maximum.
Google publishes no percentage safe zones for these formats, unlike Meta. Centre the focal subject and assume any edge can be cropped.
Logo tips
- Upload logos as square. A transparent background is often rendered on white, so a predominantly white logo on transparency will disappear.
- If a logo is flagged for blurriness, re-upload a higher-quality file. If issues persist, remove the other ratios and keep only the one that meets spec.
Video assets
A 1920 × 1920 square master holds all three orientations, with a 1080 × 1080 centre common to every crop. Frame the action there and one edit works in all three.
Text assets
- Include at least one headline of 15 characters or fewer.
- Aim for long headlines of at least 30 characters.
- Business name must match your domain or verified business name, with no promotional text.
- In Korean, Japanese, and Chinese each character counts as 2 toward the limit.
Working notes
- Feed the variety. More distinct assets give Google more combinations to test. Duplicating one image across ratios wastes that.
- One clean image per ratio. Google recommends at least one image without text overlay in each ratio, since overlays clash with placements that add their own chrome.
- Watch the square logo minimum. At 128 × 128 it is far below the 1200 × 1200 recommendation. Meeting only the minimum will look soft on large placements.
